Great Start to the Year for the Blockchain Club at Indiana University

What a great start to the year for the IU Blockchain Club here at Indiana University. With over 200 people from 8 different countries, the club has catered itself to the some of the best minds in the business.

The Kelley School of Business offers great opportunities for many students as they can decide to go to one event or many different events the club has to offer. There are over 300 clubs at Indiana University, however, the IU Blockchain Club is one of the newest and largest up and coming ones here at the Kelley School.

With more than 4 professional events offered in the first month of school as well as informal talks to simply speak about the market. Events such as “Careers in Blockchain”, “Learn to Code Python”(which was a partnership with a club called Code at IU), “Build a Block”, and “Blockchain 101”. All of these events were open to everyone and were marketed by posters being put up in Kelley along with tabling and online engagement.

Vice President Nick Heger speaks to a crowd of students lecturing them about places in the world which bitcoin is regularly used.

Here is a photo from one of the first events called Blockchain 101 for beginners where leaders from the Blockchain Club explained different simple and complex aspects of the blockchain like “what is a bitcoin?” and “where to purchase a cryptocurrency on an exchange.” There were also more complex talks about decentralized apps and what different ideas users can make with these Dapps. Prizes were rewarded for students who were engaged and participated in questions and answers.

Some of the most special times in the club come from the informal events like the one below. Students were able to simply speak about the current market and they were allowed to pitch ideas about different cryptocurrencies ideas they had.

This is an opening info session event where students were introduced to the club and allowed to pitch ideas at the end.

There were even white papers being written and ideas being created in club meetups. This is an idea called “Maincoin” which was pitched by a man from Persia who wrote a whitepaper for a coin which was going to be pegged to fiat currency in different countries.

With more exciting news and events to come from this club such as new corporate sponsorships, a new website, and a possible blockchain fund run by the team the future looks great.

Next up is an event called “Women in Blockchain” on October 29th where female representatives will come to speak to members of the club.
