A new animated series called “Bitcoin and Friends” has been officially releasing for public consumption. The series, produced by Uncle Chris Productions, is aimed at recreating the narrative about the origins of Bitcoin and how it became such a widespread digital phenomenon from its early days of esoteric obscurity. The series is expected to expand and tell more stories with future episodes. Bitcoin and Friends are entirely bankrolled by supporters of the crypto and hopes to last very long, continuously educating people about the coin.

Called “Tears of a Clown”, the first episode anthropomorphizes Bitcoin, showing it in New Jersey in 2009, when the financial climate was extremely dire. The coin wakes up alone and then tries to seek out his a father shortly after he met someone named Jones, an ice cream truck driver.

Borne Out Of Great Love For Bitcoin

It has been revealed by Robert Allen, who is the producer of the series, that there are a few people behind the series, constantly working on it. According to him, these people have very different backgrounds with some as related to the job as video production and others as unrelated as banking. Regardless, Allen notes that him and the guys are “all united in our deep love of Bitcoin, comedy and cartoons”.

Allen also spoke about what inspired the series. He’s said:

“The story of bitcoin and crypto is so colorful that it was an obvious treasure trove of good comedy and compelling characters and stories, so we knew we had to do something with that. Definitely, it was a long time coming and it needed to be done. We hope the community feels the same and embraces what we are creating.”

Uncle Chris, the director, creator and voice for the main character – Bitcoin – said:

“in the pilot episode, we start at the beginning of bitcoin in 2009 and wanted to show the frailty and uncertainty of those early days. Bitcoin will become more powerful and confident as the season progresses.”

Scenery

Uncle Chris also touched on the scenery and location in the series saying that the decision to use New Jersey as the central locale, is intentional. According to him, it’s

“a nice in between and cross-section of America.”

Furthermore, Uncle Chris explained:

“We wanted to show the struggles of many in a rust belt town but also wanted to be close enough to NYC to have some scenes there as well.”

Crew Of The Series Might Include Non-Bitcoiners

Even though the main aim of Bitcoin and Friends is to sensitize and educate the general public about the crypto in an entertaining way, producer Robert Allen did not expressly state that all members of the crew are Bitcoiners, dismissing the information as inconsequential.

According to him:

“…we hope to also educate non-crypto people about bitcoin and related technologies and bring them into the space. We think it could be a good entry point for the non-initiated. We also hope the show will be a bit of a pressure release valve for the crypto community at large… we don’t think an actor has to be a Bitcoiner to be involved with the project. After all, how do you spread the word about bitcoin if you only talk to other Bitcoiners?”

Whether or not these people are Bitcoiners, it is quite clear that they believe in the cause and are extremely loyal. Also, some members of the team have decided to employ pseudonyms instead of their real names, as a virtual nod to Satoshi Nakamoto – the unidentified person or group of persons who developed and created Bitcoin.

Can Bitcoin And Friends possibly Replace Hello Kitty In Japan?

Robert Allen has expressed his desire for Bitcoin to be so widespread that in Japan, school girls could replace Hello Kitty merchandise with Bitcoin and Friends. This he said, would be possible if the show gets enough funding in the form of generous donations from the public.

He said:

“We have several seasons outlined and hope that the show catches on so that we can continue to produce episodes. For those who enjoy the show, we ask that you please help us get the word out and donate to help us cover the production costs. Bitcoin is already famous, but we want school girls in japan to replace their hello kitty gear with bitcoin and friends merch someday soon!”
