The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) in France has begun a series of events and has called for donations in Dai (DAI), a cryptocurrency that will help in funding blockchain-based projects to educate youths around the world, the organization announced on its portal on January 6, 2019.

Investing in Frontier Technologies to Solve World’s Greatest Problems

UNICEF Ventures says it aims to invest in innovative technologies that can solve some of humanity’s most pressing problems and distributed ledger technology (DLT) is one of such technology identified by the organization to help in this endeavor.

The non-profit organization began accepting DAI cryptocurrencies in 2018 and is calling on individuals and companies to make donations to develop blockchain projects that will have social impacts.

An event titled Dignity Network has been launched to that effect, where young people around the world will be educated on all things DLT and armed with the skills needed to develop applications powered by the revolutionary technology.

Creation of Bounties Focused on Blockchain

Specifically, bounties will be created and open source organizations, as well as infrastructure projects, will be funded. These bounties will cover areas such as the fundamentals of setting up a functional blockchain network, smart contracts, and the steps required to develop a prototype.

To make this possible, UNICEF France has made plans to form teams made of well-trained enthusiasts, creatives, and technologists, in different areas of DLT.

These are youth groups from different works of life who will collaborate as a team to compete with each other. Their projects will be judged by a group of experts and the winners with the most outstanding projects will receive funds to enable them to actualize their vision.

So far, several youths in Kazakhstan and Mexico have been trained in the past year in areas such as tokenization, payments, and identity management.

The same can be said about the number of blockchain communities that have been built, and there are plans that in 2019, more individuals will be incorporated into the scheme. More insight into the events outlined reveals that each blockchain solution will be tailored to meet the needs of the geographical area in which the training is carried out.

UNICEF remains dedicated to solving the problems of humanity via DLT. BTCManager on December 11 reported that UNICEF Innovation Fund was looking to release funds to six blockchain startups to bring about the development of emerging economies.
